
Manslaughter Case Opens Following Avalanche in Les Arcs
Authorities to investigate death of Russian woman on the piste
An investigation has been opened into the death of a Russian woman in an avalanche on the piste in Les Arcs. The 41 year old lady was skiing with her family and an instructor on the Grand Renard piste on Friday 29th March 2013 when the incident occurred.
The vast majority of avalanches occur off piste and skiing within resort is normally considered to be safe as the area is controlled by the local ski patrol.
The investigation will seek to ascertain whether the resort properly assessed the avalanche risk on the day in question and put the necessary procedures in place.
The case is expected to last several months.
