
Les Arcs Avalanche Russian Skier Dies
41 year old skier dies from injuries
A 41 Russian skier died on Saturday morning after being swept away by an avalanche in Les Arcs.
The woman was hit by an avalanche in Les Arcs on Friday at around 16:00 whilst skiing with an instructor, her husband and her daughter on the Grand Renard piste.
The avalanche measured 1.50 metres deep and was over 50 metres wide.
The victim was located after 30 minutes and was immediately taken to hospital in Grenoble by helicopter, sadly the woman died the following morning in hospital.
An investigation is now under-way to determine the cause of the avalanche.
The woman was not skiing off-piste and there had been a small snowfall on Friday of approximately 5 centimetres of snow.
The area had been blasted for avalanches the morning of the incident by the piste patrol.
